For me. And I’m feeling good.
(This is Part 1 of my crazy March. Part 2 will be out next week!)
April 1, 2017 marks the 1 year anniversary of my business re-launch. I’m pretty stoked to say I’ve been growing and learning every day! There have been good days and bad days, smart decisions and dumb decisions, days of total frustration, and days I can’t believe I’m a PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHER! The one consistent thing though has been my use of Sue Bryce Education. Sue Bryce is an international Portrait Photographer currently based out of LA. She’s my idol, my mentor and strangely my life coach! 😉
For the past 12 weeks I have been a part of her online 12-Week Startup workshop. Every Tuesday we’ve had a live class and homework to do. “Startup” you may ask? I know, my business isn’t new but I thought it would be a great way to see if there was anything I was missing, things I could improve upon or new ideas I could implement. And boy am I glad I did!
Week 5 was “Folio Critique.” Several hundred of us submitted our portfolios for Sue to critique during the live class. Incredibly enough I was one of the lucky ones chosen! It was really surreal and kinda crazy to hear her say my name and then give me an honest critique on where my work currently is. I won’t bore you with the notes; just know I was SUPER HAPPY with her comments!
As the 12 weeks progressed I started recognizing names in our private group and started chatting with more and more strangers. Everyone involved with Sue Bryce Education is such a great person. Strangers reaching out to help you solve a problem or even validate you if you feel you need it. It’s such an amazingly supportive group.
During week 9/10 Sue was going to announce the 20 students that would get to come to her studio for graduation. This was a huge deal and over 800 people ended up applying. The Sue Bryce team was so impressed that they upped the number from 20 to 180 and rented a bigger venue! In one of the most unbelievable things that has ever happened to me kind of way, I WAS SELECTED TO GO!!!!! I booked the flight and found an Airbnb that day! I was not going to miss out on this once in a lifetime trip! That’s what credit cards are for right?
Flying into LA.
The 2 days I spent in LA with this wonderful community was so much more than I could have ever imagined. I’ve never been to a workshop where everyone walks in with HUGE smiles on their faces and greets you like a best friend. I hugged so many strangers and said “I apologize now, I’m horrible with names,” at least 50 times in 10 minutes. These people were AWESOME! It was a packed, super busy 2 days but I made some incredible friends!
The one and only Cookie Bryce. Sweetest little pug! You can follow her here!
We had 2 solid days of class that included Q&As, live shooting, a panel discussion and so much more. Being the super nerd I am I was first in line on day one. I was going to get a front row seat! And I did, which also means you could see me most of the time on the live broadcast. That also means I didn’t really have to fight anyone on day 2 for that seat. I don’t know why people didn’t want to sit in the front?! 😉
Since my seat was so amazing I was able to interact with Sue and her guests during the break which was AMAZING! In my head we’re best friends now!!! The quieter moments when Sue was on the stage waiting to go live were some of my favorite times. She was interacting with all of us like old friends and answered absolutely any questions we had. Unreal.
Emmet watched from home but was NOT impressed. Sorry Sue.
This is a screenshot from the live class. That’s me in the blue dress in the front row!
Another screen shot.
Yep I was actually this close! And aren’t Anita and Sue stunning!?!?!

Part 2 coming soon!
